Hair loss is something that many people will deal with at some point in their lives, but when a person first begins to notice they are losing their hair, a hair transplant is not the first thing that comes to mind.
It also may not be something a person wants to go through. Many times when an individual does have a hair transplant, the results are not what they had expected.
Although hair transplants are ideal for some, there are other non-surgical options that can also be used to treat hair loss.
There are medications on the market that will help to stimulate the growth of hair. In some cases, these types of medication have resulted in the growth of new hair restoring at least some, if not all, of the fullness an individual once had. Two hair growth stimulating medications that have been approved by the FDA are Rogaine, or minoxidil, and Propecia, or finasteride.
Rogaine, or minoxidil, is a topical treatment that can be purchased without needing a prescription. Minoxidil can stop the loss of hair and improve the appearance of the scalp. In some cases, an individual will use Rogaine as a supplemental treatment to a hair transplant.
Propecia, or finasteride, is often referred to as the most effective hair loss treatment. Approximately 66% of men that have used Propecia have seen a difference in their hair after using this product for 12 to 18 months. In order to get this medication though, a prescription is necessary. Similar to Rogaine, Propecia works to stop the loss of hair and improve the appearance of the scalp.
Some of these medications can be quite expensive, and in some cases, when an individual has stopped taking it, hair loss began again.
Masking the Hair
Some men that experience hair loss will decide to use different types of products, such as sprays or makeup in order to mask the appearance of hair loss. These products will be sprayed or put on the head and scalp in order to make it look like they have a fuller head of hair. These products are not permanent and can be quite messy to use.
Robotic Hair Restoration
ARTAS robotic hair restoration is a procedure that is similar to a hair transplant with the long lasting and real hair it provides. But it is different in being able to avoid the scarring that often comes with a hair transplant.
With the advancements in technology today, this type of procedure is one that ranks highest in giving those with hair loss a permanent and natural solution.
Hairpieces and Wigs
Hairpieces and wigs are a cosmetic solution for those with hair loss. Many of these can be customized to fit the individual, giving them a realistic looking head of hair that are relatively easy to put on. Although they are often not noticeable, it is important that they are cleaned on a regular basis and can be difficult to deal with during the hot months of summer.
Plasma Rich Platelets
Plasma Rich Platelets, or PRP, are a natural part of a person’s blood that helps a body’s wounds and tissue heal. PRP can be used in combination with a hair transplant. It is injected in the scalp before and after the transplant in order to help the area heal quickly and encourage the fair follicles to grow.
Using any one or a combination of these options can help an individual avoid the loss of hair and keep the appearance of a healthy scalp.
