A great option is a proper usage of both heating pads and cold presses. We are used to treating swelling and pain with cold, that’s why you can apply a cold press right after a spasm occurs. In case it persists, you should apply heating pads for longer terms to relax the muscle. Heat the muscle for 30 minutes each couple of hours until the spasm goes away. Gentle exercises can be performed optionally if the pain is minimal, but you should stop if it goes worse. If the pain is severe, consider taking medicines like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory ones. A simple example is the ibuprofen. Talk to your doctor if you have a repeating spasm. Your physician will probably prescribe muscle relaxers if there is no gentle treatment because muscle relaxers are addictive.
The best way to prevent further spasms is to maintain your muscles. Stay hydrated and check your electrolytes intake. The vital electrolytes for muscle contraction are calcium, sodium, and magnesium. Exercise on a regular basis, which also improves your overall health. Excessive stillness also makes our muscles numb, so make sure you stretch your muscles regularly, and you won’t experience uncomfortable spasms in a fashion hair salon while you need to sit immobile.
